Robinson penalty is enough
Forward Neil (Diamond) Robinson converted a penalty after 14 minutes to give North Village victory in this Friendship Trophy match at St. John's field last night.
Referee Stuart Crockwell awarded the spot-kick after Trojans right back Jazane Smith swiped the legs from under the speedy Sergio Goater.
When Robinson easily beat goalkeeper Keenan Tucker it proved to be the only real satisfaction for Village in a lacklustre contest.
But Village were more imaginative throughout against opponents who seldom played with any real urgency.
For most of the game Trojans were so inept going forward that coach Andrew Bascome was busier than many of his players as he shouted instructions from the sidelines in an attempt to motivate them.
The west enders made a more postive start after the interval but a defence marshalled by Kofie Dill at centre-back refused to bow to Somerset's telegraphed approach to goal.
