Rockfish picked up their second straight win to go top of the Fishbowl League as Mackerel were the latest victims of the league's new team, going down 4-0.

Close on the heels of Rockfish after two weeks of competition are Marlins, Wahoo and Sharks, all a half-point back.

The leading force for Rockfish was Janice Allen as Ray Thompson topped their scoring list by adding a 278 handicap game to the cause.

Marlins, though tied on points, are in second place on pin count after taking all four points from Hinds. Antoinette DeCouto bowled a 548 and 193 for the women's first and third honours while Marj Correia added a 540 series and 206 game to claim the second high honours in both departments. Bertie Lines had the top game of 232 for Hinds.

Wahoo beat Piranhas 4-0 as Wahoo was led by Mike McCallum's 557 series and 214 game.

Sharks, the other team tied for second, beat Porgies 4-0 with Norman Beek at the fore with a 506. Porgies did not give up the ghost and kept the pressure on before losing the last game by 10 pins.

Cow Pollies moved into fifth place with their 2-2 draw with Tuna. Barbara Smith contributed the women's third high series 536 and top game 214 but Tuna's Clifford Maxwell's 575 series and 220 game offset her efforts.

Snappers beat Dolphins 21 -11 in a close encounter with both teams scoring a 960 in their second game to share the point.

Angel Fish took Barracuda to task with a 3-1 victory as Juanita Blee scored a 652 and 253 handicap series and game.

All team captains with the exception of Mackerel, Porgies and Snappers are requested to call the secretary as soon as possible at 236-4373.

Cherokee maintained their hold over first place in the Warriors Bowling League despite drawing 2-2 with lowly Blackfoot, but their leadership is now being challenged by Cheyenne, who moved into the second spot after defeating Commanche 3-1.

Games of 156 and 165 by Sterlin Smith and Calvin Basden keyed Blackfoot's response after Lloyd Wilson and Keith Lapsley had put their side, Cherokee in a favourable position, rolling a 203 and 171 respectively.

Meanwhile, Carolyn Welch, Roslyn Simmons and Lee Holder were Cheyenne's high rollers in their match as they eased by ninth-placed Commanche.

The surprise of the early season are Apache, who appear to be making positive moves this year following several which have seen them languish at or near the bottom of the tables. Mohican were their victims this time out as they were soundly beaten 3-1, veterans Janice Wade and Carlos Lee performing the damage with games of 177 and 170. Andre Place was the lone bright spark for the losers with three solid games but he sorely lacked support from his team-mates.

Other matches had Mohawk drawing 2-2 with Choctaw and seventh-placed Kickapoo defeating sixth-placed Navaho 3-1.

Friday's schedule: Blackfoot v Kickapoo, Apache v Cherokee, Navaho v Commanche, Mohawk v Mohican, Cheyenne v Choctaw.

All bowlers are reminded that matches get under way at 6.45 p.m. and it is important that competitors get in the `horseshoe' no later than 6.40 p.m.
