Senior Golf Championships in Colorado Springs, US.

Captained by Mal Gosling, the team of Tom Wilding, Jack Wahl and Howard DeSilva won the Chilean Trophy for the leading team after the first day's play in the international championship.

They eventually wound up sixth overall in a field of some 20 nations.

However, Wilding picked up one of the individual trophies when he won the final of the scratch fourth flight on the first extra hole of a sudden death play-off.

The diminutive Bermudian played two preliminary rounds to qualify for the fourth flight. And after matching his opponent, Brazilian Lutz Bronger, over 18 holes, he sunk an impressive birdie to clinch the victory.

Wahl also enjoyed a good tournament, qualifying for the Championship flight where he reached the third round.

Bermuda's reserves were Francis Vallis and Bob Clark.

Bermuda golfers failed to qualify for the World Cup of Golf, finishing 10th out of 24 nations during the Western Zone Qualifying held at the Runaway Bay Golf Course on the Jamaica Jamaica Resort in Jamaica last weekend.

Representing the Island were Kim Swan and Dwayne Pearman, but the pair failed to live up to expectations as they combined for an overall score of 300 over two rounds.

"We played alright considering the heat, but we just failed to make the birdies which you need on that course,'' said Pearman yesterday.

Swan recorded the better scores of the two, ending up three-over par, firing 74-73 on the par-72 course. Pearman said he did the best as he could by shooting 78-75.

Venezuela, Finland, Colombia and Peru topped the leaderboard and will now compete at the World Cup in November, where they will meet the top four finishers of the Eastern Zone Qualifying.

SOCCER SOC The Youth Athletic Organisation will hold soccer registration every Saturday this month, beginning this weekend, for all youngsters interested in participating the youth league at the Naval Base.

Registration will be held at the main gate from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on September 9, 16, 23 and 30. The season will begin on October 7 with three divisions, four to six, seven to 10 and 11-13.

Somerset Extros will hold a light training session tonight at 6.30 at the club for all their Commercial League players. The session will be followed by a very important meeting at the clubhouse.

St. George's All-Stars will hold a training session this evening at Garrison Field starting at 6.00.

DARTS DRT Mitch Payton and Sue Qualls, the number one ranked male and female darts players in the US will be visiting the Island to play two exhibition matches tomorrow and Saturday at the BAA clubhouse and Sandys Boat Club. After the exhibition there will be a luck of the draw seeded doubles event at $10 per person.

The Bermuda Darts Association are also holding a meeting for all team captains at the BAA clubhouse on Monday at 8 p.m.

The meeting concerns any rule changes for the upcoming season and there will also be a prize presentation for the summer league. That will be followed by luck of the draw seeded doubles.

SOFTBALL SOF The Commercial Softball League will hold their annual general meeting at the Butterfield and Steinhoff offices in the Vallis building on September 21 at 5.30 p.m.
