Simons spoils it for Bristol kids
Bermuda killed any hopes Bristol University had of garnering a win on their Bermuda tour with a well-taken try by Andre Simons 10 minutes into the second half.
Simons completely outstripped the entire Bristol defence and ran 50 yards for the only score of the game.
The Bermuda forwards won plenty of good ball through a solid scrum and excellent jumping in the line-out by Richard Raistrick and Danny Cozens.
This was in complete contrast to Saturday's encounter with the national team and it would appear based on yesterday's performance that certain `B' team forwards deserve promotion to the national team.
Bristol again produced an excellent display of support play between forwards and backs, a tribute to the coaching of Bob Reeves.
There were periods in the game when the ball was in the hands of the visitors for over a minute. This is somewhat a result of the new laws, which encourage the ball to be made available as soon as play breaks down.
One glaring hole exposed during the tour was that Bristol students seemed to lack a matchwinner in the backs. This differed from a similar tour four years ago when they had the advantage of Johnathan Webb, England's current full-back and where they won all their games against local opposition.
HUMAN GOALPOSTS -- Two Bristol University students try to stop Dave Taylor from clearing his lines during yesterday's third and final rugby tour match at National Sports Club. Owing to a try from Andre Simons the Bermuda President's XV emerged with a hard-fought 5-0 win, sending the tourist home with a winless record.
