Skipper Amory inspires Rec

Flatts 137 Captain Anthony Amory led from the front with both bat and ball as Devonshire Rec. scored a 59-run win over Flatts at Devonshire Rec. on Sunday.

Amory blasted 62 in the Devonshire total, sharing in a fourth wicket stand of 123 with Leon Place as they moved the team out of early trouble at 36-3 to the comfortable position of 159.

Place contributed 51 before, like his captain, he was dismissed by Kevin Hurdle who returned figures of six for 47 from 13.4 overs.

Flatts threatened to make a strong bid for the runs, moving from 7-1 to 45-2 and then 77-3 before a slump saw them struggling at 95-6. Millard Bean was high man with 47 while K.Franks scored 16 in the middle order.

Amory again excelled with the ball, returning his best figures of the season of seven for 33 from 15.5 overs while his brother Omar claimed two for eight.

Somerset 78 Cleveland 79-0 Cleveland needed just 17.1 overs from eight Somerset bowlers to complete this comfortable 10-wicket win at Wellington Oval.

Openers Carlton Smith and Curtis Jackson scored the required runs as Somerset failed to make a breakthrough. Smith finished on 39 not out and Jackson 38 not out.

Somerset could only manage 78 in 41.1 overs with opener Steven Mendes high man with 22. Jason Simons, Cecil Pitcher and Gregory Talbot each took three wickets for Cleveland with Simons claiming three for 21 from seven overs, Pitcher three for eight off 13.1 with seven maidens and Talbot three for 17 from eight.

Saturday's First Division match between the International Youth Team (IYT) and Hamilton Parish at Sea Breeze Oval, and Sunday's game between IYT and Somerset Bridge at White Hill Field were both called off. Details of other First Division games were not available.
