But Simmons has plenty of time to make up ground at the International One Design-class event in Fisher's Island, New York.

Very light, foggy conditions have given all 14 competitors, also including qualifier Craig Davis of Bermuda, grief since the championships started on Monday.

As a result, only two of the scheduled eight races have taken place, with Simmons picking up eighth and seventh-place finishes. Davis finished 13th and 14th in the two races.
