Smith was a prominent figure among local golfing circles and a member of Ocean View Golf Club. He was also a revered jazz/calypso musician.

Sometime playing partner Maurice Pitt yesterday recalled Smith as a genial man, who loved the game of golf.

"I played with him quite a bit, he was a great golfer, very sharp,'' said Pitt, who teamed with Smith and others to win the Four Club tournament three times.

"He was a very kind fellow who loved sports and music. When he wasn't doing his music he was down there at Ocean View playing.

"I'll miss sitting around afterwards, having those little chats.'' Smith was 69.

He leaves behind wife Dana and two children, Perry Smith and Janet Glazehends.
