Smith piles on the runs
Northumberland League.
Following a century for his club, Benwell, in a league match against Morpeth last Saturday, Smith hit half-centuries in two separate cup competitions in midweek.
On Wednesday against Percy Maine in the quarter-finals of the Universal Cup, Smith seized two for 21 as Maine were held to 118 for five from their allotted 20 overs. He then returned to blast a quickfire 66 in leading the victory charge as Benwell responded by scoring 120 for two.
Last Thursday witnessed Smith again in vintage form with the bat against Ashington, scorching 76 not out from the 123 for two posted by Benwell in response to the 122 for four put up by their opponents during a Tynesdale Charity Bowl match.
Smith and his team-mates were due to play neighbours Benwell Hill over the weekend.
SOCCER SOC North Village will hold an urgent general meeting for all members tomorrow evening at 7.00 at the club.
