Soccer club denies fans caused melee

of Saturday's Commercial Division soccer match between Devonshire Colts All-Stars and KPMG, wasn't the fault of Colts' fans, a club spokesman insisted yesterday.

Mr. Dean Furbert took exception to a report in yesterday's Royal Gazette which indicated the trouble at Frog Lane Field had been caused when Colts' fans invaved the pitch.

"They had nothing to do with Colts. They were actually fans of Devonshire Cougars,'' said Mr. Furbert.

"KPMG knew this and when Police arrived we gave them the names of those who caused the trouble.'' The match was called off when fighting broke out between spectators and KPMG players. KPMG's Mr. Brian Rix was treated in hospital after he was beaten up while reportedly trying to keep the peace.
