Soccer stars on the move
return with some big signings as last week's Bermuda Football Association transfer deadline passed.
The Caisey brothers, Clinton and Taur, Sammy Swan and Troy Harvey have transferred to Vasco along with Somerset defender Trevor Dickinson.
Dickinson, however, is one of the seven notable players -- five from Somerset -- whose clubs are objecting to their moves on the grounds that they came up through their junior ranks.
The others are Rodney Bascome, Reggie Tucker, Lamaul Crofton and Jerry Webb from Somerset, Damon Ming of Devonshire Colts and Diallo Sharrieff of Dandy Town.
Bascome wants to leave relegated Somerset and join Boulevard, while Tucker is interested in becoming a Dandy Town player and Webb wants to join Southampton Rangers. Crofton is hoping to link up with Somerset Eagles.
In total Someset have objected to the transfers of 13 players. Ming, young player of the year last year, is trying to leave Devonshire Colts to go to Dandy Town while Diallo Sharrieff has put in for a transfer from Town to Hotels, alongwith his brother Khari.
Hotels, out of the league for the past three seasons but now returning as a Second Division side, have signed former star Ricky Hill of St. George's, Chris Sabir, Wayne Augustus and Clifford Roberts of North Village, PHC goalkeeper Ty Williams and striker Dennis Robinson and veteran defender Wayne Campbell, who missed last season with Dandy Town.
Derek Scott, Frankie Brewster Jr., Joey Weeks, Walter Crockwell and Craig Critchlow are the others who will be joining Hotels. Also leaving BAA is Mark Thorne, who is moving to Dandy Town.
Brian Anderson of Devonshire Cougars is returning to PHC while Kenny Darrell, who also helped Cougars gain promotion, is going back to Boulevard. Friendship Trophy champions St. George's have lost winger Gregg Foggo, who is moving to nearby St. David's and goalkeeper Troy Hall, who has signed with Devonshire Colts.
Colts have also re-signed striker John Richmond from Prospect. Ascento Russell is going back to Southampton Rangers while Anthony (Toe) Wilson is leaving Town again for a second stint with Devonshire Colts. Vasco goalkeeper Keenan Tucker is headed back to Somerset, filling the void left by Andre Hendrickson, who is moving on to Boulevard.
Kenny Thompson has also obtained a transfer from Somerset and will fill the post of player-coach at Somerset Eagles.
A number of players sought releases but some are now staying with the clubs they were with last season.
Among those are Shawn Simons of PHC, Dwayne Adams of North Village and Sinclair Gibbons of Vasco.
TRADING PLACES -- Among the players who are moving on to new clubs are PHC's Sammy Swan and Somerset goalkeeper Andre Hendrickson.
