Softball sisters impress
pieces at the college level in Tampa, Florida.
Their torrid hitting spree has resurrected the softball fortunes of Hillsborough Community College whose coach Ray Seymour readily admits that he doesn't know where the team would be without them.
The duo, both former members of the Bermuda women's national team, are the daughters of the former Louise Lewis who was a key member of Bermuda national team back in the 1970s. King is studying accounting while her sister is studying criminal psychology.
Their team, known as the Hawks, have an overall record of 37-25 for the season and sport a 9-7 win-loss record in the Suncoast Conference. If they win their remaining four games while the team ahead of them lose three of their remaining five, a one-game play-off would result.
King missed three weeks of the season with a pulled muscle but was still hitting .320 with two homers and 19 RBIs while Jones was hitting a robust .397 with seven homers and 39 RBIs.
Such have been the accomplishments of the sisters that they were highlighted in a feature in the Tampa Tribune with coach Seymour saying: "They are very level-headed, outstanding students and outstanding athletes. They'll make a good addition to any team.''
