Some streets in Hamilton closed for cycle racing
Dill and Pearman Grand Prix Cycle Races.
International riders will feature in the first of two major events being held this week.
The cyclists will compete on a circular route taking them up Burnaby Street, east along Reid Street (the wrong way) south down Court Street to Front Street then along Front Street to a point near the Birdcage before heading back along Front Street and up Burnaby Hill.
Motorists are reminded that the route will be closed off to all traffic from seven in the evening until approximately 10 p.m.
There will be no parking along the route from 5.30 p.m. until after the racing finishes.
Special parking bays for taxis and horse and carriages will be provided and carriages are only permitted to park on the southern side of Front Street between the Birdcage and the Ferry Terminal.
Taxis for No. one Passenger Terminal will be able to park along the northern side of Front Street between the Irish Linen Shop and the Harbour Front Restaurant, while taxis for No. six Passenger Terminal will be able to park along the southern side of Front Street just East of Court Street.
A large number of spectators are expected for this event and motorists coming into the city from East Broadway who need to avoid the area are advised to take a detour up Spurling Hill onto Reid Street, while vehicles entering from Pitts Bay Road are advised to turn up Bermudiana Road.
VISITOR INJURED IN STRUGGLE CRM Visitor injured in struggle A visitor staying at a Paget hotel was treated for injuries she suffered during a struggle with a night-time intruder.
The woman, who has not been named, sustained a hand injury after tackling a man who she discovered in her room at the Newstead hotel at 3.30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Police said she bravely confronted the man and grabbed hold of him, but he managed to escape. Her right little finger was broken during the fracas and she was treated in hospital.
The victim woke to see a man standing by the window with a flashlight -- he claimed he was looking for someone and tried to search the room.
She attempted to call for help but the suspect then grabbed her bag, attempting to flee through the window. It was then the struggle ensued, but he got away with the bag, which contained personal papers.
Police obtained a detailed description of the man and inquiries are underway.
