Somerset add to their trophy haul

on silverware as their Mini Minor team nipped the Knockout Cup from Dandy Town on penalties; their Minor team lost 1-3 to PHC in the final while their Bantams won the league in a playoff game 4-0 over Devonshire Colts.

The Somerset Mini Minors looked to have done enough to win the Cup in regulation time as an Adolphus Lambert goal kept them ahead until the dying minutes when an inswinging corner was handled on the line. Dandy Town's most dangerous forward on the night, Lashaun Dill, made no mistake from the spot.

Extra time saw both teams pressing for a winner but it was left to the penalty takers to decide the issue as Somerset won 2-1 on spotkicks. It was an exciting game and well refereed by shoolboy Daniel Morgan who was assisted by trainee referees on the line.

PHC and Somerset provided strong competition for each other in the Minor final and it was the strength of big Chris Lewis that made the difference on the night. Lewis ran strongly onto a bouncing ball early on in the game and bravely headed it into the path of fellow striker Victor Richards.

Rodre Wilson pulled one back for the Trojans but Lewis was after silverware and rounded out a fine performance with two goals.

Devonshire Colts went out for their playoff against Somerset with thoughts of their 8-0 drubbing by their west end opponents in last week's Cup Final still fresh in their minds.

Things looked ominous as Somerset poured into attack and top scorer Lamaul Crofton put them ahead early on. Soon after Jahai Butterfield unleashed a scorcher of a volley to put Somerset two up. Colts, however, dug deep and started to upset their opponents by half time.

Colts came out looking for goals in the second half and kept Somerset pinned back for long periods. Then, on the break, Somerset snatched a third through Crofton and the game was as good as over. Colts continued to fight a rearguard action but close to the end a goalmouth scramble from a corner led to an own goal and Somerset's fourth.

All that was left for Somerset to complete the double was for them to receive the Cup from BFA president Charlie Marshall.
