Spotlight on FA Cup minnows
preliminary round of the FA Cup after tomorrow's elimination round which features 10 matches.
Four of the games are all-Commercial Division affairs, with St. George's All-Stars meeting Fire Service in the lone match at Wellington Oval at 3.00 and Forties playing Exiles in the only match at White Hill.
The two other games from which Commercial Division teams are certain to advance are at Police Field where Mariners meet Park United at 1.00 and in the opening tie at BAA Field where newcomers Belco meet Spinning Wheel.
Upsets by Commercial teams over Second Division sides are not uncommon in the first two rounds of the competition and five Second Division teams will have to watch their opponents closely.
Of those matches, however, the most likely upset could come from the Island Rangers-Hamilton Parish match at PHC Stadium at 1.00. The feature match there sees Social club taking on Valley while Lobster Pot take on a BAA side that may involve a mixture of Second and Commercial Division players. That match is scheduled for 3.00 at BAA Field.
Prison Officers will be hoping to spring a surprise against Second Division team St. David's who are still waiting for their first win of the season. That match is scheduled for 1.00 at Southampton Oval and will be followed by an All-Second Division encounter between Paget and Wolves, the only all-Second Division encounter and the pick of the day's matches.
The 10 winners from this round will be joined by Devonshire Cougars and Robin Hood in the elimination round on November 12. The 10 First Division teams will come into the competition in the first round on January 14.
