Squad camp forces teams to adjust

Four clubs, Boulevard, Dandy Town, North Village and PHC have been hit hardest with the loss of three or more players heading into the second weekend of league action.
A weakened Blazers outfit, who count skipper Albert Smith, defender Leroy Stevens and Neil Robinson among the missing, get a chance to test their team's depth as they host Dandy Town at Lord's.
On the other hand Town will be without Lloyd Christopher, Paul Cann, Neil Paynter and Voorhees Astwood but appear more able to fill holes left by their departure. Boulevard have performed poorly even at full strength, losing two out of three matches and looking merely a shadow of the side that captured the Dudley Eve Trophy and were runners-up in the league last season.
"We are a bit more confident here at Dandy Town than say PHC, who have lost Kyle (Lightbourne) and Sammy (Swan), which is almost like being without six players considering they are responsible for the bulk of their team's scoring,'' said Hornets coach Robert Calderon. "We feel good about our chances against Boulevard.
"They have been disrupted by the loss of all those players in the off-season and for this camp, which is to be expected. But anything can happen come Sunday...they may be able to pick it up and play a different game than what they have so far.'' With the loss of so many senior players, Calderon said he is leaning towards going with more experienced players as replacements for the foursome as well as a possible change in formation.
This could mean spots for Kurt Martin and George Dyer in midfield. Also there is Shivaughn Smith, who has been used off the bench as well as Ross Parsons.
Youngster Jerome Belboda and Lionel Furbert are possibilities at Christopher's left-back slot.
Said Calderon: "We will play based on our opposition and this could mean a change to a three-man midfield. Paul has been really explosive surging from deep and we'll lose that aspect as we don't have another player with that sort of ability.'' Meanwhile, PHC have the fortune of playing at home tonight against newcomers St. David's, still smarting from a 4-2 thrashing at the hands of Hotels. And to make matters worse their top player, David Bascome, is a squad member.
James Pace or Sherwin (Dickie) Hollis can substitute for Bascome to form a link with Del Hollis and Jerry Laws up front but neither possess the speed or ball skills of the American indoor professional.
It will certainly be hard for PHC coach Jack Castle to adequately replace the Island's number one striking duo as well as finding a goalkeeper if Ty Williams has not recovered from the injury he sustained last Sunday. However, Castle can afford to experiment with his junior players against inferior opponents.
Luck has similarly shone on North Village who travel down to the spacious confines of Wellington Oval for their match against St. George's. Village have two draws in as many matches and could break out in a big way against Gregory (Brutus) Foggo's energetic but raw bunch.
Other First Division games see Somerset meeting Hotels at Southampton Oval in a match that could go either way and Devonshire Colts, fresh off a midweek win over Boulevard, should get the better of Hamilton Parish.
A full slate of Second Division matches are scheduled and have Prospect entertaining Southampton, Social Club at Wolves, Port Royal hosting Paget, Vasco at home to BAA, and Devonshire Cougars making the trek to White Hill to face Somerset Eagles.
