Swimmer stars in Mexico

medals from four days of competition at the Latin American and Caribbean Masters Swimming Championships in Oaxtepec, Mexico.

Insley was lugging eight of them himself, six of them gold, after setting four meet records. He won his final gold on Saturday with a record-setting time of 33.22 seconds in the 50-metre breaststroke for men aged 30-34.

Chris Smith (men 65-69) took gold in the 100m freestyle on Saturday, his first but fifth medal overall, to go along with three silvers and bronze.

Duncan Newby was third in the 45-49 year-old 100m on Saturday, bringing his count to four, including a silver.

Sara Mancell had Bermuda's other gold medal during the competition, which will be held again in two years in Fort Lauderdale.

Four of the swimmers returned home yesterday; the remainder will arrive later.

Forty-four swimmers braved the choppy waters of Harrington Sound on Saturday to take part in the final event of the Pepperidge Farm Summer Swim Series.

Mike Cash teamed with wife Kris to win the End of Summer Relay, beating Mike Parrish and Mark Herman by one minute and 14 seconds over two miles. The fastest time in the four-mile relay was by the pair of Jim Hinton and Pam Oliver.

The first female team registered for the two-mile race was Tamsin Douglas and Sara Goldthwait although Mary Hopkins and Sarah Manuel had a faster time for two miles. Hopkins and Manuel were orginally registered for the four-mile relay but water conditions caaued them to opt for a two-mile time. In the four-mile race, the top female team was Jeanne Meunier and Karen Hackenberg, just two minutes behind Hinton and Oliver.
