Talbot made to pay for missed putts
World One-Armed Golf Championship on the Forest of Dean course in Gloucestershire, England yesterday morning.
Talbot, a two-time winner of the annual event, was beaten one-up by another former winner, Dave Parsons of the Channel Islands, in yesterday's semi-final.
Parsons then went on to win the afternoon's final with a convincing 4 and 3 victory over England's Nick Champas.
But last night Talbot was still kicking himself for allowing the chance of a third title to slip from his grasp.
A series of missed putts, some from no more than two feet, sealed the Bermudian's fate in a match which he felt he should have won comfortably.
"I didn't make a putt from outside two feet all day,'' he complained. "I missed small putts at the first two holes and then three-putted the third to go two down.'' Talbot reduced the deficit to one by the turn, but then every hole on the back nine was halved as Parsons hung on for victory.
"I felt I hit the ball better than he did. In fact, I was really striking the ball well, I hit a lot of greens -- but I just couldn't buy a putt,'' added Talbot.
"He shot 78 and I shot 79, so it was always a close match, but I know my putting cost me the game.'' Talbot, who works at the Castle Harbour course, is due to return to the Island on Tuesday.
