Terrance tops record
the mile. But that may change on April 13 and Terrance Armstrong could be the one to do it.
An attempt to bring the Island's premier distance runners together for one elite race during half-time of soccer's FA Cup final at National Stadium is in the works. So far Bob Oliver, the racing afficianado trying to organise it, says he has met with success in working with Bermuda Football Association and top runners. But so far he hasn't been able to confirm it with Armstrong, who might be the key to the equation -- especially after what happened last Saturday.
Running in the St. Valentine's Classic at Boston University, Armstrong finished second in the mile with a time of four minutes, 3.48 seconds.
That time is believed to be the fastest ever by a Bermudian, although because it was run indoors, it doesn't qualify as an official record.
Ironically, Armstrong wasn't on the team that left yesterday for Grenada and the CAC Caribbean cross-country championships. Kavin Smith, Jamal Hart, Jay Donawa, Tracy Wright and Mike Watson will compete Saturday.
