Town cruise to win despite loss of keeper

Even the loss of their goalkeeper could not prevent Dandy Town from cruising to a 3-0 victory over lacklustre Devonshire Cougars last night.

Town's Mark Trott had to be carried off the field after suffering an injury to his right leg in the 28th minute.

And with no reserve keeper on the bench outfielder Jahmiko Marshall had to don the jersey, with Lloyd Christopher coming on to take over his position.

Marshall had only one real save to make during his tenure, with most of the action, especially in the second period, being in the other half of the pitch.

It took until the 65th minute for the first goal to come though, Reggie Tucker coming off the bench to fire home a free -kick, after a foul by Cougars' Trevor Smith on the left.

Devarr Boyles made it 2-0 in the 86th minute from six yards out from an indirect free-kick on the right by Paul Cann.

And Carlos Smith wrapped matters up two minutes from time from the penalty spot after 'keeper Ricardo Brangman had up-ended Tucker in the box.

Poor control and an inability to retain possession in a strong breeze had typified the first-half, with the only incident of note being the injury to Trott.

Minutes before going off, the keeper had collided with an incoming forward as he went for a cross and required treatment on the pitch.

He continued only to be injured again as he slid in to dispossess Phillip Clarke and was forced from the game.

His stand-in Marshall was called into action two minutes into the second-half, tipping over a Yusef Williams effort but from then on the action was all at the other end.

Raymond Beach went close for Town on three occasions before Reggie Tucker exacted the ultimate punishment for Smith's misdemeanour.

Two minutes later Brangman played like a one man defence, making a trio of saves with hands, feet and almost everything else as Cougars went AWOL.

When he wasn't on hand to save the day the angle of bar and post prevented Kuma Smith's shot from distance from going in.

Cann's perfectly placed free-kick and Tucker's neat step-over allowed Boyles to sidefoot the second and the icing was put on the cake when Smith fired high into the roof of the net from the spot for the third and final goal.
