Town launch inquiry after bottle-throwing allegation

Dandy Town have launched an inquiry into the alleged Marvin Lewis bottle-throwing incident, with Neville Dill, chairman of the disciplinary committee, heading the investigating committee.

Town president Elroy Ratteray confirmed yesterday that no action had yet been taken against Lewis for the incident nine days ago at Southampton Oval when Lewis was alleged to have thrown an empty juice bottle at referee Chris Terry in reaction to Carlos Smith being shown the red card.

"We have launched our own inquiry into it, and whatever the finding we will deal with it,'' Ratteray confirmed.

The club is waiting for Bermuda Football Association to lead the disciplinary process, as Lewis was under a three game suspension when the incident occurred, he was not representing his club and the incident happened at a ground other than their own.

"I think Southampton Rangers should send in a report along with the referee's report and we will abide by whatever decision the BFA makes,'' said Ratteray who is also a BFA second vice president.

"I should mention that we don't condone what happened and I feel if he is guilty he should be dealt with. But we don't have anything that says he did it.'' Lewis has had an indifferent start to his first season with the club, making just two appearances as a substitute, scoring the winner against St. George's on the opening day of the league season and then being sent off against Vasco in the next match which brought an additional three-match ban by the BFA.

"We want to be seen to be doing the right thing,'' said Ratteray. "As soon as the inquiry is finished we will call the executives together.'' BFA general secretary David Sabir confirmed yesterday the incident was still being investigated. "In due course the final ruling from the committee will be forthcoming,'' said Sabir.

Lewis faces a lengthy ban from club grounds both as a player and a spectator.

Meanwhile, the BFA have handed out suspensions for another incident earlier in the season in the Second Division match between Devonshire Cougars and St.

David's.

St. David's coach Andrew Bascome and Cougars player Galvin Butterfield were found guilty of bringing the game into disrepute on October 15 when two St.

David's players, Otis Minors and Del Hollis, were also sent off.

Bascome has been suspended until the end of December and put on probation until the end of the season while Butterfield is serving a four match ban which also carries a period of probation until January 1.

Bermudian striker Shawn Goater notched his 10th league goal of the season and 13th overall on Saturday as Rotherham drew 2-2 with Crewe Alexander.

Goater found the net in the third minute to give Rotherham the lead but Crewe equalised in the 12th minute. They fell behind again in the 62nd but salvaged a point with a second equaliser two minutes from the end.

In the league scoring charts Goater is the top scorer in his division, while his 13th in league and cup games puts him second behind the top scorer on 14.

Goater is aiming to improve on his 25 goals last season.
