Tracy Wright led from start to finish to win the second senior men's race of the cross-country series at Astwood Park on Saturday, while juniors Spencer
Wright finished the men's five-lap, 4.5-mile race in a time of 24:11, 49 seconds ahead of Mark Perry in second. Manuel Lopes was third in 25:34 with Jeremy Ball fourth in 25:56 and Mike Whalley fifth in 26:11.
In the women's 2.8-mile race, Anna Eatherley led home the field of 14 in 16:21 with Lynn Kynoch second in 16:44 and Jennifer Fisher third in 17:30. The seniors' events were sponsored by Federal Express.
A record 73 juniors, which outnumbered the seniors, competed in four categories with Butterfield and Scott tying for first place in the primary boys race after both finished the one-mile course in 8:15 with David Roache third in 8:34.
Michael Donawa finished ahead of Sharif Taylor and Collin Anderson as Berkeley had a clean sweep of the secondary boys division. Donawa finished in 15:24 while Taylor was second in 15:39 and Anderson third in 16:06.
Heidi Madeiros of Gilbert Institute was the junior girls winner in 9:05 while Tomika Williams of Warwick Academy won the secondary girls title with her time of 20:52. Jarita Dill was second in 21:29 in the secondary girls while Rachel Barton was behind Madeiros in the primary girls.
The Bermuda Track and Field Association is putting the emphasis on junior cross-country this season so as to fill in during the quiet track season. The response has been tremendous, certainly encouraged by the sponsorship of Minute Maid and Butterfield and Company.
There are five more races scheduled, the next one at Horseshoe Beach on Saturday, October 31, starting at 9 a.m. Each competitor's best four results count towards a series standings, so new competitors still have time to join.
CHESS CHS The Mutual Risk chess tournament started last Tuesday with two upsets. Top seed Tony Simpson was held to a draw by David Arorash and fourth seed George Ben was beaten by Gil Levy.

POOL POO The second annual Bermuda International Pool League Tournament will be held at Sandys Boat Club on October 25.
