Trott survived a late challenge from unfancied Derrick Burrows to finish with an 8-1 record from the round-robin event that lasted over four hours.

Young Roderick Masters, also from Hamilton Parish, finished with an identical record to Trott's but he was beaten by the left-hander in the fifth round and that was the decider in the tie-break rule.

Trott's only defeat came at the hands of cagey veteran Rawle Frederick, 21-16, 18-21, 22-20 but we was unbothered by the rest of the field until the last match.

Trott saved two match points before beating Burrows 21-11, 17-21, 23-21 while two tables away Masters made short work of Parish team-mate Kacy King, 21-8, 21-10.

A Trott defeat would have handed the title to the youngster, but Burrows served off the table at 21-22 to bring the championship to a close.

King (7-2) captured third place by virtue of an earlier win over Frederick, who took fourth with the same record.

Fifth was Mike Lindo (4-5) with the rest of the field as follows: Donovan Livingston (3-6), Cal Butterfield (3-6), Derrick Burrows (3-6), Kevin Lapsley (1-8), Egbert Levine (0-9).

The competition was designed to have the top players from the league last season involved, but several including Bermuda number one Nick Frost pulled out leaving organisers to put together a makeshift event.

The league season gets under way tonight with BAA, who have signed Frost from folded The Centre, looking to be the top challengers to champions Hamilton Parish I.

BAA are away to Eastern Stars in the feature match with Parish I at new team Cleveland.
