Twisters a nightmare for Dream Team

early warning heading toward the play-offs as they downed nearest challenger Dream Team at the weekend.

Twisters emerged from what was a close contest -- 76-69 winners -- as Kevin Barrett poured in 20 points to offset 15 by the Dreamers' Darren Smith.

Twisters moved to 9-0 with the win as they brace for the play-offs where they will be solid favourites to lift the title.

Also making noise were Bank of Bermuda, who showed no mercy on lowly Bermuda College in a 92-40 wash-out.

Leading scorers for the victors were Ralph Horn (23) and Simon Onabowale (18) as the Bank cruised through-out.

In other men's matches Young Guns defeated Kempe and Whittle 75-47, Fenton's Drive downed Young Guns 70-51, Dream Team defeated Bermuda College 70-48 and Fenton's Drive beat Kempe and Whittle 74-54.

Meanwhile, among the women, Janice Hankey's 18 points spurred Meyer's Flyers to a 45-30 win against Action World Travel, while Alex Dowling had 22 for Bermuda College in their 54-48 win over Genesis.

The Bermuda College's student council will host the Three-on-Three tournament tomorrow and Saturday at the Shelly Bay court starting at noon each day.

All those aged 16 or over are welcome to register for the event, which will see teams with a maximum roster of five members.

Entry forms are available at the Bermuda College student centre (room S225) or the registrar's office. A fee of $8 is required. There will also be late registration at Shelly Bay immediately prior to the tournament.

Prizes will be awarded to the first three teams, while others will receive consolation offerings.

HOCKEY HOC Women's hockey produced no major surprises at the weekend as play generally went according to form.

Saturday saw the Bacardi Seven-a-Side tournament take centre stage as 10 teams battled for supremacy, with Canaries I retaining the title through a 1-0 triumph over Cardinals I in the final.

Sarah Northcott was the hero, as she netted the lone goal to ensure the championship.

Swift I once again won the Carol Hammond Consolation Cup on the basis of a similar 1-0 win over Swifts III.

In Sunday play Cardinals moved to within a point of A League leaders Canaries with a 3-1 battering of Orioles.

Janice Burns, Suzanna Almedia (two) scored for Cardinals while Mary-Ellen Jackson netted a consolation tally for Orioles.

Meanwhile, B League champions Canaries drew 1-1 with Swifts in their encounter.

Canaries went ahead early in the first half through a Georgia Barbosa goal, before Emily Black equalised prior to the interval.

BOWLING BOW Sparks fell slightly off the pace as first and second-placed Buy and Sell and Pembroke Juniors won their latest matches in the Barritt's Sportsmen's League.

Leaders Buy and Sell increased their slim lead with an 18-9 win over Sparks.

Miles Smith led Buy and Sell with his 546 series while Reggie Saunders had the second high game of 234 for Sparks who got on the team honours list with their second high game of 905.

Pembroke Juniors rolled the second high team series of 2,509 and Dean Lightbourne led his team with a 546 series as Juniors got by last-placed Young Blood 16-11. Clem Lespere was third on the individual lists with his 584 series and 214 game while Young Blood claimed the third high team game of 891.

Fourth-placed Mini Forwarders also lost ground when they were beaten by Warwick Whites 211 -51 . Whites topped the team series and games list, with their 3,526 and 906 as well as the individual high honours thanks to Hilton Hayward's 610 series and 235 game.

In the other match Social Club beat Warwick Reds 14-13 in the closest match.

Social Club rolled a 2,481 team series and Reds a 2,503 series and 876 game.

Ed White had a losing effort with his 593 second high series and 212 game.

Saturday's schedule: Warwick Whites v Social Club, Warwick Reds v Mini Forwarders, Young Blood v Buy and Sell, Sparks v Pembroke Juniors.
