Two fighters from the Bermuda Police Boxing section and two youngsters from the West End Gym will be travelling to Denver, Colorado today to take part in

Constables Iain Jamieson and Gregory Todd will compete against fighters from the Denver City Police Department. It will be Jamieson's first venture into the ring while Todd will be looking for a repeat of his first performance in November when he won by knockout.

The card will also involve boxers from Massachusetts State Police and the Franklin County Sheriff's Department in Greenfield, Massachusetts.

The police boxers will be joined by juniors Jahvon Washington and Melvin Martin from Mannix Simmons' West End Gym. The pair travelled with the police team in November to compete in a tournament hosted by the Franklin County Sherriff's Department.

After competing against each other in November they have now been invited to fight against youngsters from the Denver Police junior programme.

Also travelling with the team will be Kacey Smith but he will not be competing due an an asthma condition that could be aggravated by the high altitude in Denver.

A number of sponsors have helped finance the trip.

LADIES HOCKEY HOC Another season of ladies' hockey is drawing to a close with only six league matches and two tournaments remaining in the Bermuda Hockey Federation programme.

Already the championships in the A and B divisions have been determined with Canaries winning both and Cardinals battling for second place which should be determined this weekend.

Only two matches were played last weekend with Bluebirds, third in both divisions, winning 4-2 against Orioles in the B league and 1-0 against the same team in the A league.

Viv Taylor scored the first goal of the day in the B encounter but minutes later Orioles replied through Zina Jones. In the second half, Jones scored again to give Orioles the lead but that was shortlived as seven minutes later Deborah Sagurs equalised for Bluebirds. Taylor netted her second to put Bluebirds back in front after a short corner and defender Anissa Paci scored the first goal of her career with a reverse stick touch to make it 4-2.

Ailsa Campbell scored the only goal of the game in the A match when she netted in the dying minutes of the first half after receiving the ball just beyond the 50-yard line. She then dribbled into the `D' and calmly sent the ball past the goalkeeper into the left corner.

Swifts I won the B League tournament on Saturday which saw five teams participating. Swifts finished with three wins and a draw from their four round robin matches.

SQUASH SQU Mel Caines, a former Bermuda Junior World team player, took his place in the Men's A Division of the OBM International Graded squash tournament at the last minute after Sam Stevens pulled out, but club champion Tommy Sherratt proved too strong for him.

Eighteen-year-old Stevens had to opt out because of school commitments, and although Caines worked hard in his first A Division outing, Sherratt showed all his class to win 9-5, 9-0, 9-1 in the round-robin competition.

In the Ladies' A Division, Val Protheroe beat Wendy Griffin 9-1, 9-2, 9-1 and Lily Khaw saw off Carol Ferris 9-1, 9-7, 9-1. The results give Khaw a total of 14 points and Protheroe 13, with the winner of their meeting going forward to a further round-robin play-off later in the week.

Meanwhile, in the Men's B Division, John Stout held off Anthony White's strong challenge in their first game 10-9, but the latter faded against Stout's cunning and consistent play as the final two games went 9-1, 9-2.

Richard Brewer was also in fine form to defeat Eugene Bothello 9-2, 9-3, 9-6, while Spencer Moss stormed past Andy MacDougall 9-3, 9-3, 9-4.

A tight game in the Men's C Division saw Kirby Smith produce some of his best squash to date to overcome the experienced Adam Hawley 9-6, 10-9, 10-8.

One of the most absorbing matches of the night came in Women's Division C, where Jane Ingle and Tara Walsh fought a strength-sapping five-game battle, with Ingle finally triumphing 10-8 in the last.
