PHC Stadium yesterday.

And Donovan Livingston waited until the last match of the season before scoring his first and, then, second goals of campaign.

Vasco clinched the final Martonmere Cup berth with the win.

Livingston's first was the high point of the match -- a thunderous 30-yarder leaving Boulevard goalkeeper Danny Crockwell floundering and the 200 or so fans drooling.

In fact, Vasco could easily have scored twice as many goals, hitting the woodwork on two occasions in a one-sided second half.

That second half was a great relief after a dreadful first 45 minutes, which had all the hallmarks of an end-of-season no-score bore.

Both defences were playing tightly with Livingston, Carl Ainscough and Colin Lloyd looking particularly impressive in the Vasco colours.

Dread-locked Dean Boyles was the outstanding Boulevard player spraying the ball about from midfield but finding team-mates who were just not able to find space to create anything worthwhile.

There was little goalmouth action until a couple of mistakes by Crockwell gave the Vasco forwards a scent of scoring.

But the second half opened with a bang when a Vasco corner caused panic in the Boulevard defence. The ball was headed out and the busy Ricky Mallory struck it home from outside the penalty area.

Two minutes later Vasco were again surging forward and Voorhees Astwood hit a long shot onto the bar.

On the hour, Boulevard were trying to get back into the game and Dennis DeRoza rushed into the Vasco box but was beaten to the ball by 'keeper Keenan Tucker.

Tucker cleared the ball and a fine move involving Astwood, Irving Burgess and Paul Towlson looked to have fizzled out when Boulevard cleared the ball. But Livingston met it perfectly.

He said: "It bounced just right. I just hit it and it seemed to stay the same height off the ground until it hit the net.'' Under intense pressure, Boulevard were now left hitting the ball from long distance as they found little joy through the Vasco defence. Boyles continued to play well but he had no support.

Boulevard tried to change the flow of the game with a double substitution after 75 minutes. But it had not effect as Livingston was on hand after another defensive scramble to score his second.

In the closing moments, Vasco were close to adding to their tally, especially when Astwood again hit the bar from long range.

But there were no more goals and the Vasco victory was well deserved for their dominance in every area of the field.
