impressive showings at the Junior Worlds at Torrey Pines in San Diego this week.

Mello, playing in the 15-17 division, shot a three round score of 230 from rounds of 76, 76, 78 to finish 84th overall of 238 players from 33 States and 24 contries. Mello's score was just four strokes above the cut after three days.

Hunt, playing in the same division, shot 84, 76, 80 for a score of 240 which placed him 162th. The tournament is junior golf's most competitive world tournament, played on a par 72, 7,055 yard course at Torrey Pines, which is the former home course of Tiger Woods. The winner was a player from Australia.

In the 13-14 age group, Dillas shot good rounds of 82 and 82 but missed the cut for two days which was set at 150. Dillas was playing at Steel Canyon, a 6,228 yard course surrounded by hills which created desert-like conditions.

Dillas finished 104th out of 150 competitors.

Also playing in the United States was Aaron James who competed in the Optimist International Junior Championships where he shot 93, 78, 82 for a three round total of 253 which placed him 86th out of 143 players in the 14-15 age group.

The tournament attracted participants from five countries and 24 States. It was played on a 6,367 yard course at the PGA National Golf Club.

Prior to participating at the Optimist Games, James played at the AJGA Junior All-star Classic in Texas, shooting a 99 and 88 to place 53rd out of 63 competitors.

In his fifth tournament in the US this summer, James finished fifth in the PGA Junior Series Event 12 this week at the Penn State University course.

It was James' second top five finish this summer, having won an earlier event of the PGA Junior Series at Izatys Golf and Country Club in Onamia, Minnesota.

"I hit the ball well this week and though I had a chance to win,'' says James.

"Although I am a little disappointed at not winning, I'm happy with a top five finish.'' James started on Tuesday with a front nine score of one-under 35, before running into a bit of trouble on the back nine and finishing with an 18-hole score of 76, five strokes off the lead.

On Wednesday, James carded a two-over-par 74 for a two-day total of 150 which was two strokes behind the leaders Robby Walizer from Pennsylvania and Tarik Can of Douglastown, New York who were tied on 148.

James' final round of 76 on Thursday dropped him to fifth while Can shot a final round of two-under-par 70 to win the 13-14 age group.

James' next tournament is the Junior All-Star Classic at Fieldstone GC in Greenville, Delaware next week.
