Zebras face test of title credentials

themselves sitting pretty ahead of tomorrow's slate of matches, both having been victorious in their opening league fixtures.

However, a closer look reveals vastly different prospects.

Despite a 3-2 win over arch rivals Somerset just less than a week ago, the Zebras are yet just 1-3 overall in the won/lost column and appear very unlike the dominating side of a season ago.

So much so that they go into Sunday's -- the game was rescheduled from tonight -- match as distinct underdogs to a Dandy Town side still seeking it's first league win.

Town battered PHC into oblivion in an earlier Martonmere Cup match, running out 5-3 victors as Darron Simons scored a hat-trick. And, with PHC's defence appearing more a sieve than anything, another big score may well be on the cards.

Conversely, North Village have thus far lived up to all the advanced billing as the team to watch.

Bearing the fruits of a 4-0 record, the Red Devils entertain struggling 0-3 Somerset at Bernard Park and by the end of the day should find themselves again perched high atop the tables if form runs true.

The other Sunday clash appears the most finely balanced of the trio, with a Southampton outfit that raised eyebrows in some corners by taking a point from Devonshire Colts, entertaining Wolves at Southampton Oval.

Turning to the First Division, Ireland Rangers face an intriguing clash when they welcome Social Club to Malabar, while Somerset Eagles seek to maintain their winning ways against St. David's at White Hill Field.

In a battle of two sides seeking their first points of the season, Hamilton Parish take on Boulevard at St. David's Oval.

One all-Premier Division clash, as well as several other interesting fixtures were revealed during yesterday's FA Cup first round draw.

Top flight rivals Devonshire Cougars and Somerset face the reality that one will bow out at the opening hurdle, while Southampton Rangers will likely have their hands full against a Key West Rangers side stocked with several recently retired first-team regulars.

Devonshire Colts will also have to be on the look-out, with current First Division leaders -- and a team picked for promotion this season -- Ireland Rangers in the offing.

Matches will be played on October 22 and November 5.

FA CUP, FIRST ROUND October 22 -- Fire Service v Lobster Pot; Boulevard v North Village; Dandy Town v Paget; Ireland Rangers v Devonshire Colts; Pest Control v St. George's All-Stars; Tuff Dogs v Vasco Mariners; PHC v BAA.

November 5 -- MR Onions v St. David's; Robin Hood v St. George's; Hamilton Parish v Wolves; Devonshire Cougars v Somerset; Key West Rangers v Southampton; Prison Officers v Somerset Eagles.

Bye -- Exiles, Social Club.
