Adams to make his counties debut
Challengers PHC have named three colts in their squad that will attempt to wrestle the Western Counties Cup from holders Southampton Rangers today at Southampton Oval.
Making their debuts in the competition are all-rounder Jessie Belboda, Sri Lankan left -arm seamer Shane Sunsil and wrist spinner David (Chick) Adams who at age 46 will become one of the oldest colts in Western Counties history.
As one of the senior members in PHC's side, much will be riding on the shoulders of former St.George's Cup Match spinner Adams to make inroads into a Rangers batting order containing the explosiveness of player/coach Janeiro Tucker.
The last time these two sides met at the Oval in May Tucker hammered 142 off a mere 97 balls in a drawn Open League clash before PHC handed their Western Counties rivals their first Limited Overs League loss at White Hill Field last month.
Having already got the better of Rangers, PHC will enter today's clash ozzing with confidence but will be forced to go into battle without five regulars.
Missing are player/coach Andre Manders, senior national team batsman Fiqre Crockwell, promising teenager Kamau Leverock, fast bowler Kevin Tucker and all-rounder Dean Stephens.
Both Stephens and Leverock ¿ who departs for Toronto today along with Manders with Bermuda's Under 19 squad ¿ are ineligible to play for PHC in the competition this year, Tucker is out with a knee injury while Crockwell is vacationing abroad.
PHC have named one guest player in their team in Somerset left- arm spinner Hasan Durham while assistant coach Mark Smith has also been drafted into the challenger's squad.
Rangers will announce their squad just prior to the start of today's 50 over clash.
Also scheduled for today is the sole Premier Division limited overs match involving Cleveland County and landlords Bailey's Bay in the first of back-to-back encounters at Sea Breeze Oval this weekend.
