Allrounders have one hand on cup
BC Allrounders moved a step closer to claiming their first Commercial Cricket League silverware when they coasted to an emphatic eight-wicket League Cup semi-final victory over Ernst & Young.
Their opponents in next month's final of the Twenty20 tournament will be defending champions Spring Garden Cavaliers, known formerly as West Indian Association, who notched up a seven-wicket win with three balls to spare over North Village in Sunday's first match of a double-header at Shelly Bay.
"Our boys are all hyped up going to the final," BC Allrounders manager Kenneth Smith said.
Ernst & Young were restricted to 81 for seven in their 20 overs and were powerless to stop their opponents, who romped home with 31 balls to spare.
Dale Dirckze (28) and Jason Wakeford (23) were Ernst & Young's top scorers as Clinton Outerbridge claimed three for 12 from four overs and Andre Paul two for 17 from four for the winners.
Opener Dano Outerbridge took charge for BC Allrounders, blasting two sixes and a four in his unbeaten 35, while Worrell Bean chipped in with 17.
Former Cup Match star Ricky Hill, who opened, marked his return to North Village following the withdrawal from the league of Hamilton Parish by scoring 24 in Village's 117 for five.
Samitha Ranaweera followed up his unbeaten 50 in a losing cause against league champions Jamaican Association the previous week by lashing two sixes and two fours in a 12-ball 29 at number seven while Rudy Smith made an unbeaten 20 and Mike Levon, Jr. 18 not out, the pair adding an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 37 as Village hit out in the closing stages.
Ishwar Narayanan was the pick of the Cavaliers attack with two for 30 from four.
Openers Barry Richards (20) and Patrick Hamlett (13) added 34 for the first wicket before number three Richard Foulds took control, blasting an unbeaten 35 including three sixes driven over extra cover in a Hill over that went for 20. Foulds was joined in an unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 26 by Courtney Weekes (13 not out) as Cavaliers eased home. Anthony Brathwaite earlier made 18.
Meanwhile, the Knockout tournament will dominate proceedings for the next two Sundays.
BC Allrounders will take on 14-times winners Forties, this season's league runners-up, at Shelly Bay on Sunday, while Cavaliers take on St. David's at Garrison Field and Ernst & Young meet Village at Warren Simmons Community Field. Jamaican Association, who have a bye into next month's semi-finals, will meet the winners of the BC Allrounders v Forties match.
