BADMINTON

Aidan Thorne and Adam Smith both made promising starts in The Victor Flood 2010 Badminton tourney at the BAA Hinson Cooper gymnasium last Thursday.

Numbers of entrants were lower than expected due to school examination schedules, so a round-robin format was played for singles.

Thorne won all of his matches in the under-14 event followed closely by Smith.

The under-18 event saw Shuvra D'Costa in dominating form.

In the men's singles A section event, seeded Rowan Pai faced tough competition from Joseph Lam and Huat Kim Tan on his way to the final.

He will meet Rick Dorush, the defending champion, who cruised through early rounds against John Turner and Louis Ooi.

The men's B section Mark Thorne defeated all of his opponents and will meet Jamie Ball in the final.

The tourney will continue tomorrow at 7 p.m.
