Bermuda duo head to Chile

Azaria Smith and JayLynn Hines will represent Bermuda and the Bermuda Equestrian Federation (BEF) at the FEI San Cristobal International Jumping Cup in Santiago Chile next week.

Both riders had to compete in trials back in September in order to make the cut to travel to this prestigious event in Chile.

This will be Smith's second international competition as she travelled to Barbados at the early part of the year.

Hines has been familiar in the international arena for a few years and will be competing in the Children A 12-14 years, while Smith will compete in the Children B 11-14 years.

This will be Smith's first international competition at this jumping height, while Hines' travelled to Quito, Peru just over a year ago.

A BEF spokesman said: "The competition in Chile will test their skill level.

"They will draw for horses that they would've never had the opportunity to ride until the start of the competition.

"This is what's known as catch riding and if you have the skill and talent, you should be able to ride any horse.

"The girls will compete against other riders from Central America and the Caribbean."

Both riders are stable mates who ride out of the Spiceland's Riding Center. Their coach, Katrin Glawischnig will travel with them to Chile.
