Blazers bundled out by Parish
Hamilton Parish 1
Boulevard 0
Omar Allen ripped the heart out of FA Cup champions Boulevard Blazers when he snatched the winner after 51 minutes at Wellington Oval to hand Parish a shock victory.
Struggling at the bottom of the Premier Division with relegation staring them in the face, Parish were finally able to find their form to advance to the semi-finals.
Boulevard, though losing to Allen's strike, controlled two thirds of the play but suffered from poor finishing while finding it difficult to pierce a defence with Parish goalkeeper Nigel Burgess as sharp as ever and centre-back Archer Hill doing a sterling job.
Burgess wasn't surprised by his team's success, attributing the win to his side's ability to work together.
"Yes, everything came together good for us with the players working together and just fighting hard. It was one of our best team efforts.
"My defence played excellent and we happened to keep them out. We expected to absorb pressure so we had to hang in there and keep them out for as long as possible. We are looking to improve our place in the league but we are now aiming to take each game as it comes and try to go as far as possible in the Cup."
The rain-affected first half was uneventful with Boulevard going forward without much of a challenge until reaching the penalty area while Parish's isolated attacks saw them create more goalscoring opportunities.
After 20 minutes Shayne Hollis sent a shot from 18 yards into the chest of Randy Broadbelt in the Boulevard goal and then came a major miss when Dejon Simmons was well placed to score after 32 minutes but headed a Angelo Cannonier cross straight at the goalkeeper.
With Boulevard ending the first half empty handed after enjoying terroritorial advantage, it was expected they would gain the upper hand immediately after the break.
Instead, six minutes into the second period Parish gained the lead when Allen whipped the ball into the net from a right-wing cross.
Boulevard regained their composure and went forward with all guns blazing. An equaliser looked inevitable but Burgess in the Parish goal was to deny them with two great saves.
A falling Dion Stovell got his boot to a cross from the right but the alert Burgess dramatically slapped the shot away from six yards out. The efficient Burgess was then called on to prevent Boulevard from getting the equaliser after 77 minutes, this time falling to the ground to prevent Bascome from squeezing the ball home from an angle.
