Bromby still on course
only the second medal in Bermuda's 64-year Olympic history.
The pair finished fourth and first in yesterday's two Star class races in Sydney Harbour to leave themselves tied for second in the overall standings after six of the scheduled 11 races.
But their nerves were stretched a little further early today when their quest for a medal was put on hold.
A severe storm off Sydney caused races seven and eight in the Star class and all other sailing scheduled for the harbour to be delayed.
Racing was initially put back two-and-a-half hours, but weather forecasts suggested there would be no racing today. If postponed, the races would be rescheduled for Friday, originally a rest day.
Yesterday's sensational performance produced skipper Bromby's first race victory in an Olympic regatta. Bromby and White are now tied on 20 points with Australians Colin Beashel and David Giles, two points clear of Britons Ian Walker and Mark Covell.
And they are by no means out of the running for the gold, as they trail leaders Torben Grael and Marcelo Ferreira of Brazil by just seven points.
The Spanish pair of Jose Maria van der Ploeg and Rafael Trujillo were in fifth place on 25 points.
The Bermudians will be able to discard their worst placing of the last five races and so are strongly placed.
Boxer Clarence Hill remains the Island's sole Olympic medal-winner, having brought back bronze from Montreal 24 years ago.
