Confident Rangers have eyes on prize

Southampton Rangers will be looking to wrap up another Western Counties title today when they enter the final round against Somerset Bridge at White Hill Field.

Buoyed by their relative easy passage through the previous rounds knocking out PHC, Warwick and Willow Cuts, the side will look to make quick work of a team on paper they over-match in every department.

Rangers boasts a plethora of talent that would make any other side in the Premier Division, and they will certainly need it this week with the likes of key batsmen Dion Stovell and Janeiro Tucker both off the Island.

"We are not worrying about them (Somerset) and the side they select," said batsman Andrew Raynor.

"We will go out and play our game and let our actions speak louder then words.

"We have been in so many different situations as a team throughout the years that we expect nothing to be given to us.

"The Counties this year has been a bit easier then previous years in a sense that we can put up big totals, 300 plus, and then bowl the other team out cheaply, so if we put our best foot forward we will be fine when the dust settles.

"We know that Somerset Bridge are a big underdog, but we won't take this lightly and will look to get on top from the first ball."

Raynor reckons that if the opportunity comes to make it a quick match, then Rangers have the quality in their ranks to kill their opposition.

"Most of our games this season have finished rather early, so if we feel we can get in and out as quickly as possible then so be it. But it all depends on how our skipper feels and how the wicket plays.

"In the end it doesn't matter what happens before and after the match, but what happens inside the ropes. We are looking to return the Counties cup back to it's rightful place, back at home with Rangers."
