Cougars to face Hornets in festive cup

The first round of Dudley Eve games will be a rematch of the opening day fixtures between Premier sides after the draw was done yesterday at the Bermuda Football Association (BFA) Headquarters.

With defending champions North Village not involved in this year's tournament, there will be a new champion crowned on New Year's Day at St. David's Cricket Club.

Devonshire Cougars will clash with Dandy Town Hornets in the opening game of the Christmas tournament tomorrow night at Somerset Cricket Club, while Boulevard Blazers will face off against PHC Zebras on Sunday at Police Field.

On the opening day of the league Cougars defeated Town and Blazers beat Zebras.

The winners will meet on Boxing Day at Wellington Oval.

In the case of Cougars and Town, the St. John's Field side havn't managed to get the better of their city rivals in their two meeting thus far this season.

Cougars have managed two wins in their two matches against Town, scoring seven goals and conceding just one, including their 4-1 Martonmere Cup victory on their way to hoisting their first piece of silverware this year.

Blazers, league leaders until the past weekend, will look to bounce back from the first league loss with a victory over PHC on Sunday in the second Premier Dudley Eve match being played on Sunday.

Boulevard had been on top of the summit for the majority of the first half of the season.

However, after their weekend loss at the hands of Dandy Town, they dropped to second behind Cougars will undoubtedly be trying to rebound and get back to their early season form.

They won their opening day match against the reigning League champions 1-0 and have gone from strength to strength under new coach Andrew Bascome.

PHC handed Boulevard their first loss in all competitions when they emerged triumphant in the sides' Martonmere Cup group match 2-1, and will be looking to make the most out of getting into the holiday spectacle, albeit by goal difference.

Major underachievers so far in the league, the champions will be looking to go as far as they can in the Dudley Eve knowing this could be their best chance of getting silverware this season.

Having been beaten by all sides involved in the tournament, PHC could exact some sort of revenge on all three sides and sound a stern warning to all challengers to their league title for the second half of the season.

In the First Division Dudley Eve matches, Somerset Trojans will host St. George's Colts tomorrow night, with the match preceding the Cougars v Town match, while Somerset Eagles will take on St. David's in the first match at Police Field on Sunday.
