DeCouto takes top spot in Super Bike Class
Championships have now been decided as Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club (BMRC) called the curtain on their race season at Southside Speedway last weekend.
Eight riders finished their respective campaigns as champions after a gruelling 14-race season, with some having to wait until the last race day to clinch their titles.
One of the riders, BMRC spokesmen Paul DeCouto, won the Super Bike Class after holding off Shannon Caisey by a meagre 13 points.
Winning the final two races of the season left DeCouto holding onto top spot, a position that could have easily been taken away.
"It has been a good race season for me," said Decouto.
"I have had tight competition with Shannon Caisey, Stephen Paynter and David Jones Sr. throughout the season and it feels good to come out on top.
"The quality and technical riding skills of all the riders have come on tremendously and overall it was very exciting."
Other champion riders include Andrew DeCosta (GP125), Billy Dunn (Formula), Jonathan Cabral (Scooter 70), Zain Philpott (Stock Modified), Wytiko Showers (Mini GP 70), Shae Darrell (Mini Bike Open Class), and Taznae Fubler (Mini Bike Junior Class).
Like all champions, DeCouto was quick to point out the attributes of his competitors and their never-say-die attitudes.
And with many riders gaining valuable experience this year, DeCouto is confident that next season will be even more competitive.
"In all the categories riders preformed well this year.
"I noticed when I go abroad and return to the Island, many riders have improved, whether it be week-by-week or as the season progresses.
"There are marked improvements from every individual and hopefully next year it will be just as exciting as this one."
