Defeat and injury leaves me frustrated

It's been a frustrating time for me since Bermuda were knocked out of the World Cup qualifiers at the hands of Trinidad and Tobago.

Apart from the obvious disappointment it turned out that I sprained ligaments in my foot in the second-half of the match. During the game it didn't really trouble me but when I woke up the following morning I knew something was wrong.

I've had to train by myself since I arrived back in Boston and I've been trying to keep myself in the best shape I can by doing light running and work in the weight's room.

I'm fine running in straight lines but twisting, turning and shooting causes me some discomfort, and I know I've just got to be patient.

I'm champing at the bit to regain my first-team place but I was never going to be fit in time for New England Revolution's game against David Beckham's LA Galaxy on Friday.

The squad flew out to the West Coast earlier this week and hopefully I'll be back involved sometime next week.

My injury has given me plenty of time to mull over our second leg defeat against the Soca Warriors. Attacking wise we were pretty much redundant and I was very unsatisfied with my own performance.

Both Damon Ming and myself tried to support John Barry Nusum as much as we could but our passing game never got going and we spent most the match running without the ball and defending.

Credit to Trinidad though, they played well and have some top class players in their line-up. It was a great experience for our players but I have to admit that our 'keeper Timmy Figureido probably kept us in the game for longer than we should have been.

There's been a lot of talk about the second goal and to be honest I wasn't really aware that we were making a substitution because I was standing in the wall for the free-kick. I can't blame the referee for our defeat but obviously he has to do better and ensure that the correct number of players are on the field.

It would have been something special if we could have pulled it off and nobody can fault the players for their effort and desire.

I feel if we had managed to advance to the next stage of the qualifiers it would have really accelerated the national programme forward and that's the really upsetting part for me.

But, having said that, our recent performances will ensure the national team heads to the Digicel Cup qualifiers in Cayman Islands next month with genuine belief and confidence. I've already spoken with coach Kenny Thompson and obviously I'll be looking to play my part and be involved.

Finally I have give praise to the supporters who attended the National Sports Centre.

They ensured it was a magical experience for all the players and I've never seen our fans show quite so much pride and passion for their country. The noise of the supporters gave all players goose bumps, I think.

People always talk about the atmosphere against El Salvador four years ago but as far as I'm concerned the Trinidad game topped it.

I reckon we could have sold out the stadium three times over if we'd had enough seating and I hope it's not long before the players experience that kind of atmosphere again.

See you at the corner flag!
