Dev Rec. and St.David's set for final showdown
Devonshire Recreation Club and St.David's advanced to the Open League final after prevailing over St.George's and Young Men's Social Club at the weekend.
Devonshire beat St.George's by four wickets at Wellington Oval, while at nearby Lords, hosts St. David's defeated Social Club by 21 runs in a low scoring match.
Set a target of 251, half centuries from newcomers Chris Foggo and Kameron Fox paced Devonshire to victory in 38.4 overs.
Foggo smashed ten fours in an unbeaten 77, while Fox belted nine fours in a whirlwind 51 achieved off 36 balls.
Together the pair added 76 runs for the sixth wicket to carry their team to within two runs of victory before Fox was eventually bowled by part-time medium pacer Oronde Bascome.
Ryan Steede, the ex St. George's skipper, led the East Enders' attack with figures of three for 84.
Earlier, number three bat Machai Simmons stroked a fluent 72 off 99 balls in 125 minutes and received solid support from assistant national coach Herbie Bascome (44) and Jonte Smith (34). Simons and Smith shared in a 74-run stand before St. George's declared their innings in the 64th over after securing maximum batting bonus points.
Devonshire player/coach Ricky Brangman led his team's bowling attack with two for 21.
At Lords, seamer Justin Pitcher continued his fine early season form by snatching five for 39 to restrict Social Club to 130 in reply to the Islanders' 151.
OJ Pitcher topped the St.David's batting with 34 while Lionel Cann chipped in with 28 as the home team found runs hard to come by.
But any hopes Social Club may have had of cruising to victory were dashed as they too struggled at the crease before eventually folding in the 48th over.
Skipper Kevin Hurdle, returning from suspension, led his team's resistance with 42 while tailender Jeff Tyrell hit 33.
Backing up Pitcher in the Islanders' attack were seamer Angelo Cannonier (two for 49) and spinner Delyone Borden (two for 31) who had two wickets apiece.
St.David's will take on Devonshire in next Saturday's Open League final at the National Sports Centre.
