clocked 4.54.59 at the recent Cherry Street Mile in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Running in the world class division, her time was better than the 4.55.60 she ran in New York last year.

Fisher finished seventh of the invited runners in what is considered one of the elite mile races in the United States. First was Juli Henner of Virginia (4.33) followed by Eliz Zaragoza of New Mexico (4.37). Defending champion Debbie Marshall of Pennsylvania was third in 4.38.

Fisher, however, was first overall in her age group, running some 16 seconds faster than her nearest challengers. Her time placed her ahead of all collegiate females.

In the men's division, Carlton Jones of Washington, with a time of 3.49.28, beat out Michal Bartoszak, who was clocked in 3.50.63. Third was Phillimon Hennack of Africa in 3.51.03. The first 12 runners finished with times under four minutes.

Bartoszak was the winner of last January's Bank of Butterfield Front Street Mile and International 10-K race.

According to Fisher's husband/coach, Eddie, the undulating course started uphill but finished with a long downhill stretch, although he believed Jennifer might have run faster on a flatter course. Conditions were hot and humid and there was a slight headwind.

Fisher's record was her second within three months and her third this year.

She shattered her own 1500 metres national record at August's Commonwealth Games in Canada, and earlier this year broke the 400m hurdles record.

Her next major international appearance could be at the Pan-Am Games in Argentina in March.
