Football's 'legends' back in the spotlight

Another classic battle pitting East against West will unfold at the National Sports Centre (NSC) tomorrow evening where past greats will compete for bragging rights in the Island Soccer League's (ISL) much anticipated Legends Match.

For the second year running some of the Island's stars of yesteryear will lace up in the hopes of helping their team to glory.

Last year's inaugural match ended in a 1-1 stalemate and tomorrow's match promises to be just as evenly contested.

"It's going to be a pre-Cup Match battle, only this is football, " smiled East coach Garrett (Punchy) Dill. "It's going to be so much fun and the guys are still very competitive.

"Last year's event was just so unbelievable and funny. The atmoshpere is going to be delightful and it is all for a good cause because David (Bascome) is really putting his best foot forward to help this country – and I applaud him for what he is trying to achieve."

Former pro goalie Sam Nusum will captain the East while another ex-pro, Dale Russell, will wear the captain's armband for the West.

The ISL Legends Match will precede the All-Stars game that will be beamed to millions of households, courtesy of Fox Soccer Channel.
