Shield matches as unwelcome showers rendered the pitch at Devonshire Rec.

unsuitable for play.

Field operators called the match off soon after an early afternoon downpour, forcing Bermuda Football Association to reschedule the Friendship tie featuring Somerset and Devonshire Colts, and the Shield battle between St.

David's and Hamilton Parish.

The games have been put back to February 13 with the venue yet to be announced.

However, while Colts were likely relieved at the postponement after having suffered through the recent torment of the Dudley Eve Trophy, which had them play five matches in nine days over the holiday period, Somerset will rue missing the chance to catch their rivals at a vulnerable time.

Somerset had the good fortune of rest over the break and were coming off a 2-0 victory against arch rivals PHC on Sunday.

Otis Minors scored St. David's third goal in their 4-3 First Division defeat by neighbours St. George's on Sunday and not O.J. Pitcher as originally reported.

KYLE OUT IN THE COLD SOC Kyle out in the cold Kyle Lightbourne was not even afforded a place on the bench for Stoke City's LDV Vans cup tie last night.

Lightbourne, transfer-listed by the Potters just before Christmas, has had to settle for a substitute's role in recent matches.

He was frozen out of the first 11 picture by Icelandic boss, Gudjon Thordarson who brought in two new strikers.

But he was not even among the five reserve players as Stoke, of the Second Division, took on Halifax of the Third in the second round of the competition.

PATRICK ON THE MEND BAS Patrick on the mend Basketball pro David Patrick could be back on court within the month.

The Bermudian, who plays for the Canberra Cannons in Australia's national league, broke a bone in his ankle towards the end of last year.

He continued to play for several weeks before the extent of the injury was known.

Patrick has now had the cast removed and is expected to be vying for a place in the starting line-up in about three weeks time.
