What I saw last week was the emergence of a real star.

Dimitar Berbatov was outstanding for Manchester United in the match against Tottenham Hotspur.

At the highest level of the game, he plays with such ease and it was nice to see him get that hat-trick. Hopefully those fans who disliked him will appreciate him a bit more now.

The way he plays, slow pace and apparent nonchalance, might irritate some fans because the English game is so fast.

But he is from Europe and some leagues are a lot slower and and the players have more technique than some the English players, some of whom rely on physical strength.

Berbatov has his own style and, as they say, the cream always rises to the top and that's what he is doing now.

Chelsea had an easy way of things against Blackpool and they have the players to play any other team off the pitch.

But we'll see just how good they are when they pick up a few injuries.

If some of their stars are sidelined, it'll be interesting to see if they can continue their blazing form. But there's no doubt that they have a good bunch of professionals who play for each other, which makes them so dangerous.

However, if they have to play without Michael Essien and the likes of Frank Lampard, it could be a different story.

Arsenal and Manchester United are currently four points behind Chelsea and they can't afford to get away any further. Some would say they've already got the title in the bag.

As for Manchester City, they have to beat Chelsea and United, so they must come to Stamford Bridge and look to attack.

I just don't know if they are quite ready to challenge for the title. They are especially vulnerable down the middle of defence.

A team in turmoil at the moment are Liverpool, and when you see people like Roman Abramovic and the City owners splashing money all over the place, it's difficult not to sympathise with them.

The Anfield side need more cash to compete and no disrespect to players like Jamie Carragher but he is beginning to be found out and at his age he's getting slower.

As they way it stands at the moment, the Merseyside club are going to find it hard to get into the top four. With every other club steadily improving, they have to address their problems now, before it's too late.

Another problem at the club is players speaking out, like Daniel Agger who this week criticised the method of new manager Roy Hodgson.

If I was Agger I would keep my mouth shut because he isn't in charge. The coach has nothing to prove to any player, he has been around long enough and has earned respect.

What a week for my beloved West Ham. We got our first point of the season with a good draw against Stoke City and backed it up with a Carling Cup win over Sunderland in midweek.

I saw a little bit of the match against Stoke and what I saw was a marked improvement from their previous matches.

I was impressed how they knocked the ball around and that was nice to see, and then they topped the week off by winning their cup match to get into the next round.

Hopefully this is the beginning of the turnaround for the club. Certainly they need to cimb up the table soon.

We play Tottenham this weekend and normally derbies are difficult but we are playing at home so if we can come out with the right attitude, we can continue to gain momentum.

Finally, Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque said this week that having foreign players in England can only help the country get better.

He is right but one also has to remember that you need players coming through the national programme in order to have a good national team.

My take on the issue is that you should have a certain amount of home grown players on the pitch and then you fill in with the foreigners because that way everyone wins and your national team will be better all around.

Spain, for example, have a great team that they can finally shout about but it took them 50 plus years to get it right. They have done it with home grown players.
