Bermuda cricket international David Hemp, the former captain of County club Glamorgan, is to begin a fresh innings as coach at Solihull School, outside Birmingham in England

Hemp, who retired last season as skipper of Glamorgan after amassing 30 first-class hundreds and more than 21,000 runs in a prolific 17-year career, will coach both boys and girls at all levels as of next month.

As an international, he toured India and Bangladesh with England's 'A' side in 1994-1995, and after qualifying for Bermuda in 2005 scored an unbeaten 76 against India in last year's ICC World Cup.

The 37-year-old, who lives in Solihull, is currently enjoying a Benefit Year with Glamorgan for whom he played from 1991 and was captain for the past two years.

He moved to the Midlands to play for Warwickshire from 1997-2001 and has also played for Knowle and Dorridge Cricket Club.

In between daily after-school coaching in Solihull School's indoor sports centre, Hemp will be taking part in Bermuda's tours to the West Indies and South Africa during the Easter half term and end of term holidays.

"Living nearby, I've been impressed by Solihull School's sporting success and investment in facilities – and so I was delighted when my approach to coach the school's cricket teams was accepted," he said.

"I'm looking forward to encouraging boys and girls at all levels to achieve their potential and to possibly finding a few stars of the future."
