Bermuda heptathlete Shianne Smith is piling up the points at the CAC Games in Puerto Rico and sitting pretty for a podium finish.

The California State student amassed an impressive 3003 points – one of her best ever opening day tallies – and performed the second quickest time in the 200 metres on Sunday to leave her in sixth position.

And with her best events, the long jump and 800m, still to come, the 24-year-old is now a genuine medal contender for Bermuda.

Sprinter Tre Houston has set his sights on the 200m after failing to make the 100m finals on Sunday.

At the World Junior Championships, in Moncton, Canada last week, sprinter Jeneko Place came sixth in his 200m heat in a time of 22.02 seconds.

He did not qualify for the finals.
