I'm not quitting Zebras role, claims Lightbourne
PHC Zebras coach Kyle Lightbourne has categorically denied claims he has contemplated walking out on the Charity and Martonmere Cup champions.
Reports had reached The Royal Gazette sportsdesk suggesting the former Coventry City striker was unhappy at the Warwick-based club and was considering throwing in the towel.
It had been claimed Lightbourne had become increasingly frustrated over the slow progress being made with the construction of PHC's new clubhouse - which is years behind schedule - and management's reluctance to endorse those he has attempted to surround himself with who he feels can be an asset to his team from a technical standpoint.
The ex-Zebras talisman, however, has quashed those claims and is ninety-percent certain he will still be at the helm when the 2009-10 campaign commences later this year.
"The percentage of me coaching PHC next season remains high and I haven't said to any of my players that I am not coaching next season or anything like that. I haven't discused my intentions to anyone," the former national coach said.
"I am happy with my role as coach of PHC and don't have any gripe with the people in charge. I have never even gone as far as discussing anything with the club about what my intentions are and if I was to leave, for whatever reasons, it wouldn't be on the terms that have been portrayed."
The Bermuda Hogges coach succeeded Mark Wade as Zebras' coach three seasons ago and since then has helped land five trophies to the club, including an unprecedented 10th Friendship Trophy and FA Cup.
Lightbourne insists he is happy at PHC and said he looks forward to being reunited with his players after the Cup Match holiday for the start of pre-season training.
"The players are due to report back to pre-season training and should be back after Cup Match," he added.
He did, however, admit he has considered taking up short-term residency in the UK to tend to "personal matters" which could conflict with his involvement with PHC.
"If that opportunity comes for me to go away then obviously it would clash," he added. "But no decision has been made about me moving away or anything like that."
Lightbourne also shot down claims suggesting he has lost the respect of his players at PHC.
"I don't have a problem with my players, and never have," he insisted.
