Jahday earns chance to train with Bolton

Future star: Dandy Town youngster Jahday Ford, (left), is presented with his award for being the top player at Jason Williams' (right) Head to Foot soccer camp last summer. Ford, 14, is training with young players from Bolton Wanderers in the UK as part of his prize.

Dandy Town youngster Jahday Ford is spending a week training with English Premier League club Bolton Wanderers' Youth Academy after excelling during a summer coaching clinic in Bermuda.

Ford, 14, was selected as the star player at Bermuda national team goalkeeper Jason Williams' Head to Foot coaching camp and left for the UK at the weekend for an all-expenses paid trip.

The two-week camp, held at Bermuda College, not only trained young players in a professional environment but also focused on education, health, and culture.

Williams, 24, who has turned out for North Village and Bermuda Hogges, said Ford was chosen for the grand prize after demonstrating outstanding skill and determination.

"Jahday showed a combination of skill, academia and desire and that's why he won the prize trip to train with Bolton Wanderers' young players," said Williams, who has accompanied Ford to the north west of England.

"He's certainly a player with lots of potential and is a Bermuda international in the making and this trip will be a great experience for him. Last summer's camp was our second endeavour and attracted 14 young Bermuda players. We will be looking at running another one next summer."

Last year's winner Rory Wilson, from Warwick Academy, won a trip to Madrid, Spain, where he trained with top European coaches and gifted young players from across the globe.

Sponsors of the camp included Ariel Re., ACE insurance, Island Cleaning Services, Orbis Mutual Funds, Capital G, Bermuda College (John Bronson), John Barritt and Son, Bermuda Commercial Laundry, Bermuda Water Works Ltd, and Khadine Adams.
