Jennings tops All-Star voting
the 170 replies received from the public for this weekend's All-Star match at Somerset Cricket Club.
Local fans were invited to submit their teams for the inaugural game which will involve the top players in the league. Jennings, of the West, was the most popular player but ironically his spot may be in jeopardy because of a knee injury.
The starting teams for the East and West squads were determined by the number of ballots each player received.
Dwight Warren of Boulevard was the most popular choice for the East with 129 votes while Dwayne Adams (124) edged out out Troy Hall (123) for the starting goalkeeper spot in the East team.
Timmy Figureido will start as goalkeeper for the West, having totalled 118 votes compared to 71 by Randy Darrell.
The top four choices for places in the East defence are Albert Caisey, Shannon Burgess, Neil Paynter and Makonnen Hollis, though Burgess is doubtful as he is presently abroad.
In midfield the leading choices are Devonshire Colts' pair Mark Ray and Jahmah Samuels and Nakia Smith of North Village. Dwight Warren, Ellington Weldon and Philip Clarke will be the three starters up front.
Leading the attack for the West will be Ascento Russell, Darron Simons and Irving Burgess while the midfield will comprise of Otis Steede, Corey Hill and Shawn Smith.
Meshach Wade, despite playing for struggling Second Division side BAA, showed that he is still highly regarded as he collected 121 votes and will be part of a West defence that also includes Enwar Hunt of PHC and Dandy Town's Lionel Furbert.
The coaches of the top First and Second Division teams will handle the two sides, with Vic Ball of Devonshire Colts assisted by Hotels' Robert Calderon taking charge of the East and Mark Trott and Randy Horton coaching the West.
The plan is to have each player in the squad get some playing time.
Sunday's action begins at 12.00 with the Premier All-Star match followed by the women's All-Star game at 2.00.
The feature match kicks off at 4.00 and a half-time attraction will be the Colonial Insurance challenge when five fans will be drawn to try to win a new car by shooting the ball from the half-way line into a goal (three-feet by three-feet) at the southern end of the field.
The match will be played in memory of Hugh Richardson, a former Honorary Vice President of the BFA, who died on Sunday.
