Juniors advance at top Canadian event

play of the Canadian Junior Championships at the demanding Royal Woodbine Golf Club in Ontario yesterday.

And all five of the Island youngsters are heading for a place in the match-play stage of the competition.

Perhaps most impressive yesterday was Bermuda's lone female representative Laura Robinson who fired a superb five-over-par 77 to add to her first day 82.

She now leads the nine-player girls field by three shots from Canada's Jennifer Soltis who is in turn four strokes ahead of third placed compatriot Sarah Howard.

The low four girls after today's final round of medal play enter the semi-finals of match play on Friday.

Meanwhile, in the boys 12-15 age division, Bermuda's trio of Ryan Mello, Aaron James and Fraser Hunt finished second, third and fourth in a field of 59 competitors to qualify for the match play which begins today. Only the top 12 advanced.

Overnight leader James slipped to an 81 after a first round of 72 but it was still good enough to see him through while Mello added a 74 to his opening 73.

Hunt continued his steady form with a 77 on the heels of a 78.

In the 16-18 division Chris Smith fired an 80 to go with his first day's 84 and qualified for today's match play by a single stroke.

The top 24 from a field of 71 made the cut.
