Khano impresses in UK trial

Reggie Lambe: Desperate to impress Ipswich boss Roy Keane.

Bermuda international Khano Smith has impressed during his trials at League Two side Lincoln City as he attempts to resurrect his professional career in England.

Smith has played two reserve team matches for the Imps as he looks to win a permanent deal at the club after being released by Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit New York Red Bulls mid-season.

The trialist set up both of Lincoln reserves' goals during a 2-1 win against Rotherham earlier this month and played another 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw at Newcastle last week.

"He has a great left foot on him and played a part in both our goals," said Lincoln's youth team coach Tom Spall. "He's done enough for us to have a look at him over the course of the next few days in training."

If Smith is to revive his career at Linclon he will have to prove himself to former Blackburn and Celtic striker Chris Sutton who was appointed as the Imps new manager yesterday.

And he isn't the only Bermuda player Lincoln are running the rule over with caretaker manager Simon Clarke scouting Reggie Lambe in Ipswich Town reserves' recent 6-2 win over Stevenage Borough.

Lambe, who made his senior Tractor Boys debut in a Carling Cup tie at Shrewsbury at the start of the season, helped himself to a hat-trick against Borough and Town coach Roy Keane said he was a contender to go out on loan to gain first team experience.

"Good young players might benefit from going out on loan," said Keane. "It can be a good experience for these players, such as Reggie Lambe. I'm very open-minded about this."

Smith had been on trial at Shaun Goater's former team, Southend United, who decided not to award him a contract after watching him play left back in their reserve team's 5-0 defeat against Norwich City.

Prior to his move to the MLS back in 2005, the ex-Dandy Town man had a string of unsuccessful trials at UK teams, although it is believed League Two side Rochdale did invite him for a second try-out before he signed for New England Revolution.

Sutton, 36, who was capped once by England, succeeds Peter Jackson who was dismissed by Lincoln at the beginning of the month.

His assistant at Sincil Bank will be ex-Blackburn defender Ian Pearce. They will take charge tomorrow, with caretaker boss Clark staying in charge for today's League Two match at home to Sven Goran Eriksson's Notts County.

n Five promising Bermuda footballers have helped South Kent School enjoy an unbeaten start to the season in Connecticut.

PHC trio Tre Ming, Shaquille Trott and Shakhai Trott along with Somerset Eagles duo Anthony Hunter and Tahj Bell have been in fine form the team who have won the opening five matches of the campaign.

Fulham trialist Ming scored in his team's 3-1 win over Northfield Mount Hermon last week with a close-range header.

South Kent also won their match over Trinity-Pawling 4-0 at home last week.

Up next for the side is a showdown against Hotckiss on tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Bermudian Jason Simons scored for Cambrian men's soccer team on his debut for the Canada-based college.

The 17-year-old netted a brave header during Cambrian's 1-0 win over highly-rated Algonquin College but was unable to finish the match after picking up an injury after a heavy collision with the Algonquin goalkeeper.
