Khano Smith made his Lincoln City debut in a goalless draw against Torquay United at Sincil Park.

The Bermuda international was handed a start by Imps manager Chris Sutton and played 76 minutes as a striker on Saturday before being substituted.

Struggling Torquay dominated for much of the game but were left frustrated by two goal-line clearances.

Stefan Oakes scrambled the ball off the line from a Chris Robertson header and Shane Clarke cleared another header after the break from Wayne Carlisle.

Torquay's Tim Sills should have done better late on but headed wide.

Lincoln's Oakes was denied by a superb save from Michael Poke, while Eric Lichaj crossed but Cian Hughton headed over.

Smith won three free-kicks and also had an effort at goal from outside the box which went wide.

Manager Sutton said: "The final ball is still something we need to work on, but in the end I think a point was fair.

"In terms of effort and commitment we're doing our best. Other things we can improve on but the players gave their all and that's all I can ask for."

Smith, 28, signed for Lincoln earlier this month on a short-term contract until January to become Sutton's first capture.

Lincoln travel to League Two rivals Morcambe next Saturday.
